Welcome to my blog page for the DC Walk for Farm Animals! It's still a work in progress, so keep checking back!

The Walk for Farm Animals is held in locations all over, and raises awareness about farm animal issues, such as factory farming, the major link between global warming and factory farms, foie gras, and many more. The walks also raise much needed funds to help care for animals being cared for by Farm Sanctuary at their New York or California shelter.

The walk I will be participating in is on October 14, 2007, in Washington D.C. It should be a fun event, a great way to have fun and help animals at the same time-and if you can't make it to the walk, please consider donating, every dollar makes a difference!

And don't forget a very simple and easy way to help farm animals; Sign up for Farm Sanctuary's email news and action alert list at http://www.farmsanctuary.org/signup.htm

Below are some of my favorite farm animals:

One of the smiling pigs-all pigs should be this happy!

A lot of the pigs at Poplar Springs came from a case a few years ago, where a driver of a truck full of pigs on their way to the slaughter house decided he did not want to work anymore, so he abandoned the truck (and the approx. 200 pigs inside) in Maryland. Many of the pigs went to Poplar Springs Animal Sanctuary in Poolesville, Maryland, and to Farm Sanctuary's shelters as well.

Juniper

Juniper is one of the goats, and my favorite :) She was left by her owners in Virginia, when they moved, and was on her own for six months before authorities were called. Because she was forced to walk in the mud all that time her tendons constricted, so while she isn't in pain, she is not able to walk like she is supposed to.
